My actual six degrees of separation is also iPhone free, but I have a theory. Although the price has dropped phenomenally, I have read that iPhone sales are held by certain phone companies only, and the annual subscription for services is astronomical. Of course one could go independent (the only option in Oman, which is, as you say, not listed), but then the sexy software for which we love Apple is not fully functional. Long did I drool in iDolatry over the promotional materials in the online Apple store. But, nah, for now I'll just stick with my antique iPod and my trusty Nokia. Sour grapes? Whaddever.
