Name

Neil Tony D’Souza

Birth

I was born in the year of the Snake. On 29 October 1977 at precisely, 0020 hours in Goa, India. I am characterised as a typical Scorpio. According to Feng Shui, I am an Earth element. Here are 69 more things about me.

School and College

I left Goa when I was 3 years old and flew over to the Middle East – Muscat, Sultanate of Oman. My primary education (up to the 4th grade) was at Indian Central School in Muscat. I returned to Goa to continue my school education at Don Bosco High School.

Two years of higher secondary education were spent at St. Xavier’s Mapusa, Goa. After a further three years in a degree programme I graduated in 1998 from St. Xavier’s College with a Bachelors in Commerce degree. Parallel to the graduate programme I also earned a Diploma in Systems Management from Aptech Computer Education.

My first job

On 2nd May, 1998 exactly 3 days after my last paper at St. Xavier’s College, I was employed at Aptech Computer Education, Panjim, Goa, as a Teaching faculty and Lab-In-charge. This was my first full-time job and while I was doing that I also earned my second Higher Diploma in Software Engineering. After about a year or so and a part-time stint at The Reading Habit, I moved to Bombay (Mumbai) and worked there churning out web pages for a living.

Web Designing

After picking up the necessary skills in web design at CyberV@lley Solutions, Mumbai, I did a small stint at Interac Oman and returned to Mumbai. I have designed over 20 websites although most of them have probably been redesigned.

Apex Publishing and the Apple Mac

My relationship with the Apple Mac started in July, 2001 when I joined Apex Publishing (now, Apex Press and Publishing) as an IT Manager. Apex is and has been my all time favourite job where I’ve met a variety of people. Yes, you can learn a lot from journalists, too ;)

For the better part of 5 years I supported ever-increasing teams of journalists, designers, sales, marketing, admin and accounts, while also updating and managing multiple websites including Apexstuff.com and FreeTheWeek.com. Leaving Apex and Muscat was like leaving home. But in the December of 2006 I had to move to another challenge.

Life

After living in Newbury, Berkshire (photos) and enjoying the quiet and calming lifestyle of the area, the world-famous fish and chips, and hating the cold weather, I’m back in Oman basking in the warmth of the middle east. Nothing feels better.

This Website

The website runs on the very popular WordPress publishing platform. The re-design is in progress. It will showcase a portfolio of websites that I have designed over the years. The site is also used as a writing space. The blog covers a variety of topics including music, film, technology and photography, some of which have been previously published at Apex. I don’t intend it to be very popular, but more a personal space for my rantings and for my friends to find me. There are tons of websites in cyberspace and I’m not up to fight them for a slice of the action.

Write to me

Yes, there is a human being (maybe a geek) behind this website and if you pose a question you will get an answer back. Just knock and I’ll get back to you ;)

The Support

After experimenting with blogs at Moved.in I’m now hosted at WordPress.

And a big thanks to the ever popular WordPress community. For those who don’t know, WordPress is an advanced blogging tool that can be ‘themed’ to suit the design you need. It can be integrated into your existing website, or can be configured to work like a website. What makes it popular is that it is free, simple to use and supported by thousands of developers.
